Ladybirds is a league for women golfers in Brunswick County. Twelve golf clubs host a tournament each year. Oak Island is a charter member. To be eligible to play in a tournament, a player must have a handicap index of 40 or less and be a member of her ladies’ golf association. Sign-up sheets are posted 3 weeks before each tournament. Each club is
allotted a certain number of players, but alternates are encouraged to sign up for extra spots in the tourney. Prizes (a sleeve of balls) are given in each flight for low gross, 2nd low gross, low net, and low putts. There is a host club that has the final tournament, "The Cup". In The Cup eight players are chosen per club, and the 7 low nets are counted for the total/win. There is also, a year end luncheon. To qualify to play in The Cup and to attend the luncheon, a player
must have played in at least 2 tournaments.
